Working with the Pen Tool of Adobe Illustrator
Drawing straight lines with the Pen tool
Whenever you click with the Pen tool, you create an anchor point. If you move the mouse and then create a second anchor point, it will be joined to the first one, thus creating a straight line, the simplest type of path you can draw with the Pen tool.
If you continue to move the mouse and click, you will create a path made up of anchor points connected by straight line segments.
- With the Pen tool selected, position the mouse where the straight path will begin, then click to create the first anchor point.
- Make sure that you do not click and drag, as this will create a curved path segment.
- Move the mouse to where you want the segment to end, then click again.
- Continue moving the mouse and clicking to create additional straight line segments.
- To close the path, position the Pen tool on the first anchor point. A small circle will appear near the Pen tool when it is over the point. Click once to close the path.
