Variable Width Strokes with the Width Tool of Adobe Illustrator

The Width tool is used to create different width strokes along an open or closed path by creating Width Points. Paths can have multiple width points and they can also be saved as a stroke style for access to the same width style.

Width Tool

Width points are created along a selected path by clicking and dragging outwards from the path with the Width tool. This creates a Width Point which is displayed as a white diamond on the path when the width tool is selected. Selecting the width point will display the outer white diamonds of the width point. The width of the Width point can be adjusted by dragging these outer white diamonds towards or away from the path.
